Grassroots Computing

Is computing only for big companies, research centers, states and ellites? Can computing be otherwise?

The course begins with the observation that grassroots spaces are sites of critical imagination where alternatives to the interlocking crises of the present emerge, however brief, unfinished and precarious. As instructor, I draw from my experiences of research and advocacy with rural communities in Colombia and from a decade-long engagement with networks of community-engaged practitioners and scholars in Latin America.
