The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) at the University of Illinois hosted a special breakfast for members of the Puerto Rican community at UIUC, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and community supporters. The gathering created a space to connect, celebrate Puerto Rican culture, and highlight the university’s ongoing engagement with Latine and Caribbean communities.
The breakfast was held in anticipation of the Miguel Zenón Quartet performance at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, which featured the Grammy-winning saxophonist and composer from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Zenón, recognized for blending innovation and tradition in his music, has released numerous acclaimed albums and collaborated with celebrated artists such as Charlie Haden, David Sánchez, and Ray Barreto.
Attendees at the breakfast enjoyed conversations about music, culture, and heritage, and were given the opportunity to learn more about Zenón’s work and the significance of jazz as a medium for cultural expression.
