The Sustaining Mesoamerican Indigenous Language Event was a huge success! CLACS hosted a 2-day event at the start of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages: Experiences, Strategies, and Community. Guest speakers Celerina Patricia Sanchez Santiago (Poet, Mexico), Elizabeth Alvarado Garduno (UNAM, Mexico), Cuitlahuac Arreola Martinez (California-based Activist and Educator), Jose Sanchez Barrera (UNAM, Mexico), Matthew Olmos, and Jesus Alberto for a panel discussion and a series of workshops. Guests also met the Mexican Consulate's First Secretary and Deputy Consul in Chicago, Gerardo Guerrero Gómez.
